middle earth

Somewhere nestled between the Shire and the Lorien elf forest, are the endless flowing green pastures of Normandie. While aimlessly driving through some of the smaller, older villages in search of France’s oldest tree, I was particularly struck by the homes enclosed in a ring of trees. As it rains pretty much all the time in this NW region of France, the trees form a formidable barrier against the elements (or bands of angry orcs…)
I found them absolutely enchanting and if it weren’t for the constant rain in Normandie, I would seriously consider living here at some point. If for know other reason to satisfy a childhood dream of living in the world’s greatest fort.

the view from the car...

and what you really come to Normandie to see. the sea.

and as with the rest of France, fall in love while waiting for your moules-frites...

Winter on L'Île de Ré

Jutting out from the western coast of France is la the petite island of Ré- or simply put ‘heaven on earth’. With it's uniformed white-washed facade, bluish-green shuttered buildings, this ridiculously quaint sea-salt producing, oyster mongering island is never more pleasant or peaceful than in the winter months. When the absence of the throngs of tourists that populate this island during the summer gives way to a truly authentic “French” fishing village experience.

my very first manifestation

The French are never happier than when they have showered their bedsheets with spray paint and are parading through the streets of Republique,
(la crème de la crème of strike venues) declaring their rights through the mouthpiece of a megaphone. Teenage angst was on display at this particular manifestation as education was the topic du jour. An imperative rite de passage in my personal journey of becoming almost French.

let it snow

Okay so it's no "Blizzard 2010" but a respectable amount of snow graced the streets and parks of Paris. Most importantly ca cache la merde!

circling the drain in the 19th

J’adore le graffiti in Paris. Shot these during one perilously perturbed afternoon as my mood was figuratively (and literally) kicking la merde through the streets of my arrondissement. It seemed every time I lifted my head I spotted one of these life-persevered-clad-men. I have since seen them on many corners in Paris and they always make me smile buoying me a bit from whatever state.
